Description
Røst is a remote archipelago of around 365 islands, islets and skerries at the southwestern tip of the Lofoten Islands. The flat, largely treeless landscape is renowned for its important seabird colonies, including puffins, guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes. For centuries, cod fishing has shaped life on Røst, with fish traditionally dried on wooden racks to produce stockfish, much of it destined for Italy. The dramatic bird cliffs of Vedøy and Trenyken are among the area’s highlights. Røst combines spectacular coastal scenery with a deeply rooted fishing culture, centuries-old trading traditions and remarkably unspoiled nature, making it an exceptional destination for birdwatching and northern lights.
