Description
Flåm is an idyllic village at the innermost end of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the Sognefjord, and one of the best-known destinations in western Norway’s fjord region. The village is particularly famous for the spectacular Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana), one of the world’s steepest standard-gauge railway lines, winding through dramatic mountain scenery, waterfalls and numerous tunnels. Flåm combines breathtaking fjord landscapes with railway heritage, hiking and cycling opportunities, as well as excursions to the nearby Nærøyfjord, which together with the Geirangerfjord forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage site. Despite its small size, Flåm is a major destination in the Sognefjord region and a popular gateway to the natural and cultural landscapes of western Norway.
