Description
The Geirangerfjord (Geirangerfjorden) is one of Norway’s most famous and spectacular fjords and, together with the Nærøyfjord, forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the West Norwegian Fjords. Steep cliffs, deep valleys and dramatic waterfalls such as the famous Seven Sisters shape its breathtaking landscape. The fjord is particularly impressive when explored by boat or kayak, while viewpoints along the surrounding mountain roads offer sweeping views across the fjord scenery. Historic mountain farms cling to the steep slopes above the water, reflecting the region’s traditional cultural landscape. The village of Geiranger at the head of the fjord is a popular base for exploring the area.
