Description
Ålesund is a picturesque coastal town in western Norway, renowned for its remarkable concentration of Art Nouveau architecture. After a devastating town fire in January 1904, the city centre was rebuilt within a few years, creating a distinctive architectural landscape influenced by European Art Nouveau. Today, Ålesund stretches across several islands between fjords, skerries and the open sea, surrounded by an impressive mountain landscape. From the viewpoint on Mount Aksla, visitors can enjoy sweeping views over the town and surrounding islands. Ålesund also serves as an important base for exploring the Sunnmøre Alps and the fjord landscapes of western Norway.
