Description
Rincon is the oldest settlement in the Dutch Caribbean, founded by the Spanish in a valley out of sight of the sea so that passing pirates would not find it, and it is where the enslaved salt workers of the southern pans were housed. It has stayed the cultural centre of Bonaire, and on the thirtieth of April each year the Dia di Rincon festival brings most of the island's population into one street for a day of simadan harvest songs, food stalls and parades. The Cadushy distillery makes a liqueur from the cactus that covers the hills around it.
