Description
Rajshahi sits on the north bank of the Padma facing India and cut its airborne dust faster than any city on earth, by two thirds in two years, and that is what it is known for abroad. It sends two things out to the rest of the country, silk still woven on a handful of looms at the edge of town and mangoes from the orchards around it, the standard by which Bangladeshi mangoes are judged. The Varendra Research Museum was the first museum in the country and holds the sculpture of the whole region. The Padma is the border with India for much of the way past the city.
