Description
Cox's Bazar has the longest unbroken natural sand beach in the world, a hundred and twenty kilometres of it running south from the town without a headland to break it, and it is the busiest domestic holiday destination in Bangladesh by a wide margin. Laboni is the town beach, Inani and Himchari further south are quieter and backed by hills. The railway from Chattogram opened in 2023 and its station is built in the shape of an oyster. Buddhist temples in the hills behind date from the Arakanese period. Boats leave for Saint Martin's in winter. The Rohingya camps inland at Kutupalong hold about a million people.
