Description
Prizren is the most attractive town in Kosovo and the one most visitors make a point of reaching, an Ottoman settlement of tiled roofs and minarets stacked in a bowl below a fortress, with a stone bridge over the Bistrica running through the middle. It was the capital of the Serbian empire in the fourteenth century and the seat of the league that first pressed for Albanian autonomy, so its history is claimed from several directions at once. Four languages are still heard in the streets. The Dokufest documentary festival fills the town each August.
