Description
Gračanica is a Serb village south of Pristina built around a monastery church of 1321, one of four sites making up the Medieval Monuments in Kosovo, inscribed by UNESCO and on the list of World Heritage in Danger since 2006. The church is the mature work of late Byzantine building, five domes stepped up in a pyramid over a compact cross plan, and the interior carries a nearly complete cycle of fourteenth century fresco painting. Nuns keep the monastery. The listing in danger reflects political circumstance rather than the state of the fabric.
