Description
Gjakova holds the oldest bazaar in Kosovo, a long street of low wooden shopfronts that has traded since the sixteenth century and was rebuilt after being burned in 1999. Saddlers, tinsmiths and jewellers still work in it alongside cafés. The Hadum Mosque at one end dates to the fifteenth century and keeps a small library of Ottoman manuscripts. A stone bridge of the eighteenth century crosses the Erenik outside town. Gjakova is quieter and less visited than Prizren, which is a large part of the appeal.
