Peja, Kosovo

Peja

Kosovo · 520 m

Description

Peja sits at the mouth of the Rugova gorge where the Accursed Mountains meet the plain, which makes it the base for everything people do in the Kosovar mountains. The Patriarchate of Peć on the edge of town was the seat of the Serbian church for centuries and is UNESCO listed, four churches built together under one roof with frescoes from the thirteenth century onward. The bazaar in the centre was rebuilt after 1999. Beer from the town brewery is the standard order across the country.
