Description
Mitrovica is the town the Ibar divides, Albanian on the south bank and Serbian on the north, and the bridge between the two halves is the most photographed object in Kosovo for reasons that have nothing to do with its architecture. Each side runs its own currency, mobile network and school system. Above the north bank the fortress of Zvečan holds a spur first fought over in the eleventh century. The Trepça mines in the hills behind held lead, zinc and silver and once carried two thirds of the whole economy.
