Description
Port Sudan is the country's main harbour on the Red Sea and the point from which its diving is reached. The reefs offshore are among the least visited and best preserved in the whole sea, with steep walls, big schools of hammerheads and reef sharks, and visibility that regularly runs past forty metres. Sanganeb is an isolated atoll with a lighthouse on it and carries UNESCO World Heritage status, and Shaab Rumi still holds the remains of Jacques Cousteau's underwater village Precontinent II. Almost all diving is done from liveaboards that sail for a week or more.
