Description
Karima is a Nile town at the foot of Jebel Barkal, a flat topped sandstone mesa that the Kushites and the Egyptians before them held to be the home of the god Amun and the source of kingship itself. The great Amun temple runs along its base, and a pinnacle at one corner was carved into a giant royal cobra. Steep pyramids stand on the sand beside it. Within a short drive lie the royal cemeteries of Nuri and El Kurru, the latter with two painted burial chambers cut into the rock and open to visitors.
