Description
Dinder National Park covers a large stretch of savannah and riverine woodland on the Ethiopian border in south eastern Sudan, the country's oldest and most important protected area and a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Its defining feature is the mayas, seasonal oxbow meadows left behind by the Dinder and Rahad rivers, which hold water into the dry season and draw the animals to them. Reedbuck, oribi, waterbuck, greater kudu, warthog and troops of baboons gather there, with lion, leopard and cheetah present but rarely seen. More than four hundred bird species have been recorded.
