Description
Port Said (بور سعيد) is a historic port city in northeastern Egypt, situated on the Mediterranean Sea at the northern entrance of the Suez Canal. Founded in 1859 during the construction of the canal, the city quickly developed into an important trade and transportation hub connecting Europe and Asia. Port Said is known for its colonial-era architecture, cosmopolitan heritage and close ties to international shipping. Huge cargo vessels pass along the waterfront, while Port Fouad lies directly across the canal on the Sinai Peninsula. The city uniquely combines Mediterranean character, maritime tradition and the historic significance of one of the world’s most important waterways.
