Description
Edfu (إدفو) is a town in Upper Egypt on the west bank of the Nile, between Luxor and Aswan, best known for its exceptionally well-preserved Temple of Horus. Built during the Ptolemaic period, the monumental temple is one of the most complete ancient Egyptian temple complexes and offers a remarkable impression of traditional pharaonic architecture, with its massive pylon, reliefs, columned halls, and surviving roof sections. Hidden beneath layers of sand and settlement debris for centuries, much of the temple remained remarkably intact. Edfu combines the character of a modern Upper Egyptian town with outstanding archaeological heritage and ranks among the most important cultural stops along the Nile.
