Description
Oranjestad is the capital of Aruba and the point almost every visitor passes through, either off a cruise ship at the terminal or down from the airport a few minutes away. The main street is a row of Dutch colonial facades painted in sherbet colours, rebuilt that way in the nineteen nineties, running past duty free shops and a free streetcar. What sends most people out of town again is the Renaissance hotel's private island, where a flock of Caribbean flamingos walks the shallows and has become the single most photographed thing on Aruba.
