Description
North Caicos is the green island of the Turks and Caicos, wet enough for real vegetation where the others are dry scrub, and its farms once fed the whole group. A ferry crosses from Providenciales in half an hour and a causeway carries the road on to Middle Caicos. Wade's Green Plantation is the best preserved Loyalist cotton estate in the islands, abandoned when the soil gave out and now walls and a well among the bush. Flamingo Pond holds a resident flock, and Whitby has long empty beaches. The island has around fifteen hundred people.
