Description
Grand Turk is the seat of government of the Turks and Caicos and has a cruise centre at its southern end that lands more passengers in a day than the island has residents. Cockburn Town keeps a front street of Bermudian colonial houses in stone and wood along the water, with the national museum among them holding a Spanish caravel wrecked on the reef in the sixteenth century. John Glenn was picked up offshore after the first American orbital flight. The wall drops off two hundred metres from the beach. The island is eleven kilometres long and the whole country is governed from it.
