Description
Mutare is the third city of Zimbabwe and sits in a bowl of mountains eight kilometres from the Mozambican border, on the corridor that carries most of the country’s freight down to the port of Beira. It is a green, orderly town of wide streets and it is the base for the middle of the Eastern Highlands. The Bvumba rise directly behind it into permanent mist, holding rainforest, a botanical garden laid out in the 1930s and a population of samango monkeys. Cecil Kop reserve sits on the town edge and the border post is a working crossing.
