Description
Harare is the capital of Zimbabwe and where nearly every international flight lands, a city laid out on a grid at fifteen hundred metres with jacarandas that turn whole avenues purple in October. Few visitors come for the city itself and most pass through in a day, but the National Gallery holds the best collection of Shona stone sculpture anywhere, Mbare Musika is the largest market in the country, and the Chapungu sculpture park sets the same carvings outdoors among the trees. The northern suburbs are green and low rise and hold the restaurants and the craft villages.
