Description
Morne Trois Pitons is the volcanic interior of Dominica and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first natural site inscribed in the eastern Caribbean. Five volcanoes sit inside it, along with the second largest boiling lake on earth, a flooded fumarole about sixty metres across that steams and heaves at the far end of a valley of vents and grey mud called the Valley of Desolation. Reaching it takes six to eight hours on foot with a guide, and it is the hardest day walk in the Caribbean. Emerald Pool and Titou Gorge are reached in minutes by comparison.
