Description
Mochima national park covers a stretch of coast where dry mountains fall straight into the Caribbean and the sea reaches inland in deep fjord-like inlets. Boats leave the villages of Mochima and Santa Fe for beaches that no road reaches, several of them a strip of sand between two cliffs. Dolphins are common in the bay and whales pass in season. The water is clear enough for diving on the offshore islands. The coast road from Puerto La Cruz to Cumaná runs high above the whole park. The park was declared in 1973 and covers ninety-five thousand hectares of coast and sea.
