Description
The Gran Sabana is the open eastern half of Canaima national park, a high grassland at a thousand metres where tepuis stand on the horizon in every direction. Route 10 runs south across it from Ciudad Guayana to the Brazilian border and passes a waterfall every few kilometres, several of them wide curtains over red jasper beds. Quebrada de Jaspe runs over a single slab of the stone. Pemón communities hold the land and guide the walks. Morning mist lifts off the grass at dawn. Route 10 was cut through in the 1970s and now runs paved all the way to the border.
