Makeni

Makeni is the commercial hub of the entire north, a hilly town that supplies the surrounding farming districts and serves as the last real stop before Outamba-Kilimi. The central market here is large and mostly wholesale, trading rice, cassava and produce brought in daily from villages for miles around. There is very little built for tourists here, and the town works mainly as a place to change vehicles and buy supplies before the road deteriorates further to the north. Traffic through the town is heaviest early in the morning, well before the heat sets in.
