Description
Le Moule faces the Atlantic on the north coast and was the first port of Guadeloupe, shipping sugar out before Pointe-à-Pitre existed. Its bay is the surf capital of the island, and the reef break here has held national championships. The Edgar Clerc museum on the cliff above holds the best Arawak and Carib collection in the Lesser Antilles, dug from sites along this coast. Damoiseau distillery works the cane fields inland and is the largest rum producer in Guadeloupe. Beaches north of town run wild and empty. The town lies half an hour north-east of the capital.
