Description
Lahij (Lahıc) is a coppersmiths' village on a shelf above the Girdimanchay gorge, reached by a narrow road cut into the cliff that is closed by landslides often enough to be an event in itself. The main street is cobbled with river stone laid over a mediaeval sewer and drainage system that still works, and the workshops along it beat and engrave copper the way they have for centuries, now mostly for visitors but with the technique intact. The people speak Tat, an Iranian language unrelated to Azerbaijani.
