Gabala
Azerbaijan · 750 m
Description
Gabala (Qəbələ) was the capital of Caucasian Albania two thousand years ago and is now the mountain resort Azerbaijan has spent heavily on, with a cable car up to nineteen hundred metres, a ski slope, a shooting complex and a summer music festival. The forested foothills of the Greater Caucasus behind it hold the Yeddi Gozel waterfalls and Nohur lake, and the ruins of the ancient city sit on a plateau between two river gorges outside town. Hazelnut orchards cover most of the district.
