Description
Kom Ombo (كوم أمبو) is a historic town in Upper Egypt on the eastern bank of the Nile, north of Aswan, best known for its remarkable double temple. The temple is dedicated to two deities, Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus the Elder, the falcon god, and features two parallel sacred areas. Its columned halls, reliefs, and sanctuaries largely date from the Greco-Roman period. A nearby crocodile museum displays mummified Nile crocodiles and other evidence of the Sobek cult. Kom Ombo combines the agricultural landscape of the Nile Valley with rich religious and archaeological heritage, making it one of the most distinctive stops between Aswan and Luxor.
