Koli National Park (Kolin kansallispuisto) is one of Finland's most iconic natural landscapes, protecting a chain of ancient quartzite hills that rise steeply above Lake Pielinen. Its forested ridges, rocky summits, and sweeping views have made Koli one of the country's best-known national landscapes and a lasting symbol of Finnish National Romanticism. The 347-metre summit of Ukko-Koli offers a spectacular panorama across the lake's countless islands and surrounding forests. Well-maintained hiking trails lead through old-growth woodlands to scenic viewpoints, striking rock formations, and peaceful lakeshores, while a small ski area provides winter recreation with exceptional views over the frozen lake. Combining dramatic scenery, remarkable geology, and rich cultural heritage, Koli is regarded as one of Finland's most significant natural and cultural landscapes.
