Description
Jan Thiel is the resort district on the southeast coast, a sheltered bay of beach clubs and apartment blocks built around a former salt pan where flamingos still feed at the far end. It is quieter and more Dutch than Mambo Beach and functions as a base for the eastern half of the island. Spanish Water, the deep protected inlet just west, is where Curaçao keeps its yachts, and the tugboat sunk in shallow water off Caracas Bay is one of the most photographed dive sites in the Caribbean.
