Description

Golfito is a port town in the far south of Costa Rica and an important gateway for exploring the Golfo Dulce and the southern Pacific coast. Surrounded by rainforest, mountains, and sea, the town is shaped by its past as a center of the banana industry, its commercial port, and its duty-free shopping zone. The sheltered waters of the Golfo Dulce are home to dolphins and numerous other marine species, while humpback whales visit the gulf seasonally to breed and raise their young. Golfito combines tropical nature and a maritime atmosphere with traces of its United Fruit Company heritage, while offering direct access to the rainforests of the Golfito Wildlife Refuge and one of Costa Rica’s most biodiverse regions.
