Poás Volcano National Park (Parque Nacional Volcán Poás) is one of Costa Rica’s best-known protected areas and home to the active Poás Volcano, which features one of the country’s largest volcanic craters. The park is renowned for its immense main crater with an often steaming, greenish-turquoise acidic lake, as well as Botos Lagoon, a crater lake surrounded by dense cloud forest. Well-maintained trails and viewpoints offer impressive views of the dramatic volcanic landscape. Thanks to its proximity to San José and easy accessibility, Poás is considered one of Costa Rica’s most popular and accessible volcano experiences.
