Description
Glendalough, meaning “Valley of the Two Lakes”, is a historic valley in the Wicklow Mountains, renowned for its early medieval monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century. Set among wooded hills and the shores of the Lower and Upper Lakes, the site features a remarkably preserved round tower, medieval stone churches, intricately carved crosses, and the remains of what was once an important religious centre. Glendalough combines Ireland’s rich history and architecture with the rugged beauty of the Wicklow Mountains National Park. Hiking trails lead from the monastic site and lakes into the surrounding mountains, including the popular ascent to the Spinc ridge, which offers sweeping views across the valley and Upper Lake.
