Description
Blarney is a small village northwest of Cork, best known for Blarney Castle, an imposing 15th-century tower house, and the legendary Blarney Stone. Visitors climb narrow spiral staircases to the top of the castle to kiss the stone, which, according to legend, grants the gift of eloquence. Surrounding the castle is an extensive estate of gardens and woodland, including the Poison Garden, the atmospheric Rock Close, ancient yew trees, striking rock formations and winding paths. Blarney combines medieval history with Irish folklore and makes a popular excursion from Cork, easily paired with exploring the city or other nearby sights.
