Cajón del Maipo
Chile · Metropolitan · 900 m
Description
Cajón del Maipo is a spectacular Andean canyon southeast of Santiago and one of the most popular excursion destinations from the Chilean capital. Shaped by the Maipo River, the region combines rugged mountain scenery, snow-capped peaks, glaciers, hot springs, and turquoise alpine lakes. Its best-known attractions include Embalse El Yeso, the El Morado Natural Monument with its glacier and lagoon, and the hot springs of Baños Morales. Hiking, rafting, climbing, and mountain biking make the valley one of central Chile's premier outdoor destinations. Thanks to its close proximity to Santiago, Cajón del Maipo is an ideal place to experience the dramatic landscapes of the Andes on a day trip or weekend getaway.
