Bandarban
Bangladesh · Chattogram · 70 m
Description
Bandarban is the most mountainous district in Bangladesh and holds the country's highest ground, which by local reckoning is Saka Haphong near the Myanmar border. Nilgiri and Nilachal are ridge-top resorts where cloud sits below the balcony in the early morning, and that view is what fills the hill road from Chittagong at weekends. Boga Lake high in the interior is a crater pool reached by a hard jeep track and a walk. Marma, Mru, Bawm and Tripura villages farm the slopes. Foreigners need a permit for the deeper valleys. The district has fewer than five hundred thousand people across four thousand square kilometres.
