Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
Madagascar · Alaotra-Mangoro · 950 m
Description
Andasibe-Mantadia (Parc national d’Andasibe-Mantadia) is one of Madagascar’s most important rainforest regions and a remarkable showcase of the island’s unique wildlife and flora. Located east of Antananarivo, the protected area is best known for the indri, the largest living lemur species, whose haunting calls carry far through the forest. The rainforest is also home to diademed sifakas, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, and numerous endemic birds, reptiles, frogs, and plants. Misty montane forests, streams, and densely vegetated trails make Andasibe one of Madagascar’s best-known nature destinations. As part of the Mantadia UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the region also represents a major effort to protect one of the island’s richest ecosystems.
