Travel to the French Southern and Antarctic Lands
The French Southern and Antarctic Lands are a French territory of remote islands scattered across the southern Indian Ocean, from the Scattered Islands near Madagascar to the subantarctic archipelagos of Crozet and Kerguelen. There are no permanent residents, only scientists at research stations.
The Kerguelen and Crozet islands hold huge colonies of king penguins, albatrosses and elephant seals and are listed by UNESCO. They can be reached only as a passenger on the supply ship Marion Dufresne from Réunion, a voyage of about four weeks.
