Yaoundé, Cameroon

Yaoundé

Cameroon · Centre · 726 m

Description

Yaoundé is the capital and lies inland on seven hills at seven hundred metres, which makes it noticeably cooler and greener than Douala. Ministries and embassies fill the centre, and the Monument de la Réunification twists upward as a concrete spiral marking the joining of the French and British territories in 1961. The Blackitude museum and the national museum in the old presidential palace hold masks, thrones and beadwork from across the country. Mount Fébé rises behind the city with a Benedictine monastery and its collection of instruments. The railway runs north from here to Ngaoundéré overnight.
