Description
Korup is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa, a block of lowland jungle on the Nigerian border that survived the ice ages when most of the continent's forest did not. Botanists count more tree species per hectare here than almost anywhere, and a suspension bridge over the Mana river carries the entrance path into the park. Drills, chimpanzees and eight other primates live in the canopy, and the bird list runs past four hundred species. Trails lead to forest camps over several days of walking from Mundemba. Nothing here is comfortable and everything is wet. Five metres of rain fall here in an average year.
