Description
Rhumsiki is a Kapsiki village in the Mandara Mountains near the Nigerian border, set among volcanic plugs that stand out of the plain like towers because the softer rock around them eroded away. Kapsiki Peak is the tallest at over twelve hundred metres and the one every photograph shows. André Gide called the view the most beautiful in the world when he passed through in 1927. The village blacksmith reads the future by watching a crab move stones in a pot, a divination that draws as many visitors as the landscape. Terraced fields of millet climb the slopes.
