Description
Yankari is the best known wildlife reserve in Nigeria, a stretch of savannah and gallery forest in Bauchi state holding the country's largest surviving elephant population, several hundred animals that move through the park in large herds. Baboon, patas monkey, roan, hartebeest, waterbuck, buffalo and crocodile are all present, and lion are occasionally reported. The Wikki Warm Spring is the real draw for many, a pool of clear water at a constant thirty-one degrees flowing out of the sandstone and deep enough to swim in day or night. Rock paintings at Marshall Caves lie within the park.
