Description
Badagry lies on the lagoon west of Lagos near the Benin border and was one of the main slaving ports of the Bight of Benin, shipping hundreds of thousands of people across the Atlantic. The Slave Relics Museum and the Mobee family collection hold shackles, branding irons and the ledgers of the trade. From the town a canoe crosses the lagoon and a sand path leads to the Point of No Return on the Atlantic shore. The first storey building in Nigeria stands here, built by missionaries, along with the first primary school in the country.
