Short description of West Point Island
West Point Island is a sheep farm on the western edge of the Falkland Islands, and a regular landing for the expedition cruise ships. From the settlement a track climbs over the hill to the Devil's Nose, where black-browed albatrosses and rockhopper penguins nest side by side on the cliff edge in a colony of several thousand birds. The albatrosses sit on their mud nests within a few metres of the path, and the rockhoppers hop up the rocks from the sea below. Back at the farmhouse the owners serve tea and cakes. Very few people stay the night.
