Goose Green

Falkland Islands · East Falkland

Short description of Goose Green

Goose Green and its neighbour Darwin are two small farm settlements on the narrow isthmus at the centre of East Falkland, known for the first major land battle of the war of 1982. Monuments to the British paratroopers stand on the ridge where their commander fell, and at Darwin the Argentine cemetery holds the graves of more than two hundred soldiers. Further north the bay of San Carlos, where British forces came ashore, has a museum and a war cemetery. A lodge at Darwin makes a base, and the gravel road runs on to Stanley in about two hours.
