Description
Trat (ตราด) is a quiet provincial capital in Thailand’s far east and an important gateway to the Koh Chang island group and the Cambodian border. The town is characterized by traditional teak shophouses, narrow lanes and the historic Bang Phra Canal, once an important trading route. Wat Buppharam, dating back to the 17th century, is considered Trat’s oldest temple, while the Trat Museum offers insights into the province’s history and culture. In the coastal community of Ban Nam Chiao, Buddhist, Muslim and Chinese traditions come together. The region is also known for its traditional Ngop hats and the historic gemstone deposits around Bo Rai.
