Ayutthaya (พระนครศรีอยุธยา) was the former capital of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya and is one of Thailand’s most significant historic cities. The ancient royal city is renowned for its extensive temple ruins, imposing Buddha statues, distinctive prangs, monasteries, and remains of magnificent palaces. Founded around 1350, Ayutthaya developed over centuries into an important political, cultural, and economic center as well as a major hub of international trade. The Ayutthaya Historical Park forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a fascinating insight into Thailand’s royal and religious past. Located north of Bangkok, Ayutthaya combines profound historical significance with a distinctive cultural atmosphere.
