The Valley, Anguilla

The Valley

Anguilla · Anguilla · 20 m

Description

The Valley is the capital of Anguilla and holds the airport, the government offices and almost everything on the island that is not a beach. It is barely a town, a crossroads of low buildings under flamboyant trees with a population of a couple of thousand. Wallblake House is the oldest building on Anguilla, a plantation house of 1787 with its kitchen, stable and slave quarters still standing behind it. The Heritage Collection Museum sets out Arawak stone tools and the story of the 1967 revolution against St Kitts. Ferries reach Blowing Point a few kilometres south. The island is twenty-six kilometres long and never more than five wide.
